About
OpenIRB exists to make intelligence reviewable.
AI governance needs more than principles and more than logs. It needs structured review processes that can be adopted, audited, improved, and trusted.
Mission, lineage, and open model
OpenIRB’s mission is to provide an open operating framework for reviewing high-impact intelligent systems before and after deployment.
OpenIRB is inspired by the social technology of Institutional Review Boards: independent review, informed consent, risk-benefit analysis, participant protections, and continuing oversight. It extends those principles into a world of AI systems, autonomous agents, medical technologies, data networks, and human-impact decision infrastructure.
OpenIRB should be developed in public wherever possible:
- Public concepts, schemas, and docs.
- Public issue discussion where appropriate.
- Permissioned review artifacts where privacy demands it.
- Clear governance for standards, contributions, and versioning.
